Watersports
& Activities
Although the comforts
of the Knotty Mind entice you to settle in and relax, sometimes
you feel like adventure! Whether it's diving an untouched reef,
snorkeling through the half-submerged wreck of a smuggler's plane,
or landing a giant wahoo - the Knotty Mind delivers the action.
Once you find out that everything you need is already on board,
you'll wonder whether you've chartered a yacht or a giant toy
box - and you'll be right on both counts!
More
Boats - More Fun
With
not one but two auxiliary boats (called tenders) the Knotty
Mind can take you to more exotic and interesting places in one
day than other charter boats can see in a week. The 14' rigid
hull dinghy can shuttle you to a private beach for a romantic
picnic or take you on a wild waterskiing ride with ease. Our 21'
Paramount runabout (an included feature of Exuma charters - additional
for other areas) allows you take side trips and water tours into
remote areas, go wherever the fish are biting, or dive remote
spots that may be inaccessible to larger boats.
More
toys - more sports
- Snorkeling
- A great deal of the beauty
of the Exumas is in the water - you'll want to spend a lot time
there during your charter. It's a snorkeler's paradise - shallow,
clear water teeming with fish and coral. In order to maximize
your enjoyment we recommend that you bring your private snorkeling
gear with you - but we do have some spares just in case.
-
- Scuba Diving
- The Knotty Mind makes
is an excellent choice for those that want to include some scuba
diving in their charter. The Exumas have every kind of diving
from shallow reefs to deep walls to drift and wreck dives. The
Paramount tender allows you to get to remote dive locations quickly
while the rest of your party enjoy the stationary comforts of
the Knotty Mind. There are a number of world-class dive sites
in the Exumas as well as many that would be famous - except that
you will be among the lucky few to have experienced them!
-
- We carry six 80 cu.ft.
tanks that are available for use by certified divers. Our onboard
air compressor allows for refills without having to make stops
ashore. There are also 5 full sets of dive gear aboard to be
used as backup - but for assured comfort and fit we recommend
you bring your own gear. The rear cockpit is perfect for gearing
up and the large swim platform makes for easy water entries and
exits. A freshwater shower on the swim platform helps keep you
and your gear in top shape. If you have any members of your party
that would like to take lessons or perform their certification
dives while on the charter we can arrange for a dive instructor
to come along.
-
- Water Skiing/Tubing
- Ever had an entire bay
to yourself to practice your slalom turns and spins? Or wanted
to learn to ski without other traffic or spectators to deal with?
In the Exumas almost every anchorage you will visit will suit.
Our inflatable tender and the Paramount are both highly maneuverable
tow boats and Captain Bill is a skilled driver as well as a patient
teacher!
-
- Fishing
- If you'd like to try to
catch your dinner the Knotty Mind can offer several ways to test
your skill (or luck). We carry a variety of gear for a variety
of fishing styles: you can troll for dolphin or wahoo, bottom
fish for grouper, snapper, and hogfish, or even try spearfishing.
With the built-in cockpit grill, your catch can go from the water
to the table in minutes! Local bonefishing guides can be hired
to take you after some of the best fighting fish in the world.
-
- Beachcombing
- Miles and miles of deserted
beaches, a rich marine environment, and you - need we say more?
-
- Hiking
- There is no shortage of
opportunities to stretch your legs in the Exumas. Several of
the cays you will visit offer marked hiking and nature trails
with a variety of difficulty. You can explore natural phemonema
such as blowholes, freshwater wells and Rachel's Bubble Bath
(a natural "jacuzzi"); observe the graceful "sea
eagle" - the osprey - nesting and nurturing its young; or
try to catch a glimpse of the elusive Hutia at night on Wardrick
Wells. There are many interesting "human" phenomena
to explore as well: old pirate coves and camps, early settler's
ruins, and for the brave at heart - Esther's haunted house on
Compass Cay.
-
- Water Excursions
- Several of the more interesting
sights in the Exumas are only a short boat ride from our anchorages.
The "Venice of the Exumas" at Shroud Cay offers canals
teeming with wildlife including a large population of stingrays
and hammerhead sharks. The Caves at the Rocky Dundas let you
glimpse what pirates of old might have seen as the ideal hideaway
for their treasure. You also won't want to miss the Thunderball
Grotto - a half-submerged cave where scenes from the James Bond
movie Thunderball were filmed.
